The Prayer Chain Ministry

The Prayer Chain Ministry has been a part of our parish since 1985 when it was suggested that intercessory prayers be said for the sick.  Its purpose is to make available 24 continuous hours of prayer for seriously ill persons, for those facing major surgery, or in time of major crisis in someone's life.

The Prayer Chain is put in motion only when one of the Captains is notified of the need for prayer.  The Captains inform volunteers of the need and the chain begins, usually at midnight following the presentation of the petition.

At the present time, volunteers are called to pray about one hour per month but, occasionally, it could be more. The members of the Prayer Chain state the petition being prayed for and the person for whom the prayers are offered. Prayers may be formal or personal, recitation of the Rosary, or Bible readings.

There is an urgent need for more volunteers for this ministry, especially for the time from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m. -- a great opportunity for those who are night owls, work a late shift, or are early risers.  There also is a need for people willing to substitute, occasionally.  What a magnificent stewardship sharing of time by all those who have prayed their hour these many years.

To volunteer, to request prayer, or for further information, please call Anna Virgilio at (610) 444-3072.
