Friday — May 6,
2005: After years of planning on growing St. Pat’s according to
the official “Master Plan,” the parish office physically moved from its
former home in the old convent on Meredith St. to a roomy new home
directly behind the church. This is a first step in providing more
office and meeting space for our growing parish.
Father Sharrett,
along with Rose Marie Oram, Marie Elliott and Marianne Kane spent the
day lugging boxes between buildings, while moving men moved furniture,
and computer and telephone specialists wired the new facility.
The charming new
office with its user-friendly front porch has three spacious rooms, in
addition to a cheerful kitchen, on the first floor, with three rooms on
the second floor. The porch stretches across the front of the new
office, with a center door opening into Rose Marie’s bright office on
the right, and south side, of the building. This office is perhaps
double the size of the front office in the convent.
To the rear of this
room are two doorways. The one toward the back, or east side of the
house, opens into a meeting room similar to the one on the second floor
of the convent but, again, larger and more comfortable. There is plenty
of space for the long conference table as well as a small parish library
with books and videos you can borrow.
The other doorway in the rear of the main office leads to a big kitchen
and powder room in the hub of the house.
Continuing counter clockwise from the kitchen takes you to a private
office where Father Sharrett can meet with parishioners.
Father Sharrett,
Marie (business manager) and Marianne (director of religious education)
have their offices on the second floor. “We are so happy,” says Marie,
speaking for the group.
Once everyone is
settled, Father Sharrett plans to have an open house so you can stop in
and say hello.
The former occupants
had scarcely moved out of the convent on Friday, May 6, when the school
librarian, the school principal and a team of helpers from the school
arrived to begin transforming the old office into a new school library.
Together, they rolled up their sleeves and got to work sweeping,
scrubbing and then painting the walls throughout the building. The new
library has rooms the beautiful colors of the rainbow!
The vacated parish
office will be put to good use by the school when the new academic year
begins.
