The
Hospitality Ministry at St. Pat's had its genesis last summer when the
committee was formed to plan the St. Patrick Parish Picnic. Through
the efforts of chairperson Kathy Anderson, and volunteers, the picnic was
a great success. The response to this event illustrated the interest
of our parishioners in social activities and led directly to the formation
of an official Hospitality Ministry in March, 2001 by the Stewardship
Committee.
Today's ministry has a
core group of nine parishioners and about 20 volunteers, once again
working under the leadership of Kathy Anderson. Assignments for the
growing number of projects of this ministry are handled by groupings of
the ministry's volunteers.
At
the present time, Hospitality meetings are held only to organize
committees for events, with follow-up contacts to finalize
arrangements. The group thus far has sponsored a successful potluck
dinner to welcome newly registered families of our parish. They also
organize the wine
and cheese/coffee and donuts socials after Saturday Vigil/Sunday
Masses. And remember the Second Annual St. Patrick Picnic coming up
on August 5th. These activities help foster a spirit of hospitality
and caring in our Sunday worship and beyond.
Kathy
believes Hospitality Ministry volunteers achieve much because their
activities encourage and enable our parishioners to actively participate
in the parish community. She personally feels this ministry enables
parishioners to feel they are part of our Church and are helping to make
the parish grow.
