The
Collection Counters Ministry at St. Patrick Church has been under the
direction of Douglas Singo since 1975.
This
ministry is composed of nine parishioners who work on a regular
schedule. Their backgrounds are diversified and include banking and
business skills. The purpose of this ministry is to see that
collections are counted and information prepared for recording; money is
banked the same day so interest may be earned promptly.
There
are no meetings for these parishioners, but training is required so the
participants understand the procedures to use. To ensure our parish
practices follow proper guidelines, Doug meets with Father Sharrett to
discuss directives from the Archdiocese. All parishes benefit by
adhering to the sound policies recommended.
Working
in the Collection Counters Ministry is another way parishioners give their
time and talent to the Church and to God. When describing this
ministry, Doug noted the loyalty and dedication of the people
involved. There never has been a Sunday when someone from the
ministry has not been present to fulfill their obligation. He also
emphasized that one of the skills of those involved is that they respect
the privacy of donations.
Collection
Counters wish more people would use Church envelopes to show their support
of St. Pat's. Individuals serving the ministry agree that their
satisfaction in service is being able to see the Church grow, especially
through the increase in monetary contributions, most recently with the
increase in our offertory collections.
While
the counters may be recognized as workers in the Collection Counters
Ministry, they acknowledge that this stewardship of time and talent is
truly completed by all who share their treasures with our Church.
