The
Adult Choir at St. Patrick Church is under direction of Shirley Madonna,
the parish Director of Music. The
purpose of the choir is to sing with our parishioners, thus enhancing the
beauty of the liturgy. While St. Pat's choir is not intended to be a
concert choir, it has performed in concert series. Currently, there
are 35 to 40 members -- a large choir for a parish our size.
Rehearsals are held every Wednesday from
September through June, between 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. in the choir
loft.
While
the ability to read music is not essential, an audition is required.
The choir sings music with four to five-part harmonies. Its
repertoire is varied and includes ancient motets, to Gregorian chants, to
contemporary music. By changing hymn selections and introducing new
music frequently, Shirley feels she is challenging the members of the
choir. That, in turn, deepens their musicality.
Our
Adult Choir Ministry sings two Sundays each month as well as special
liturgies throughout the year including the masses for Thanksgiving,
Christmas Eve, Holy Week from Palm Sunday through Easter.
Shirley
expresses appreciation for the gracious comments she received regarding
the polished performances of our choir. She says members could say
she always works them hard, but that they also have fun times during
rehearsals. Members reveal that they work hard so that St. Pat's and
its director can be proud every time they sing.
We
all share this stewardship of time and talent every time we join in the
music presented during liturgies. Anyone interested in auditioning
for the Adult Choir Ministry should contact Shirley Madonna through the
parish office at (610) 444-4364.
