The
youth ministry at St. Pat's began on May 2001 with membership open to all
parish youth and their friends who are students in 7th grade through high
school. Sixty-five teens already have registered for this
ministry. Being a new ministry and considering the number of parish
youth in the membership grades, leader Jennifer Elliott is looking forward
to welcoming new members who may join any time. Adults who would
like to work with our young people are encouraged to join the ministry as
volunteers.
This
is a ministry with a social setting but it also reaches beyond that to
give moralistic direction and to teach Catholic principles. This
year, our youth group sponsored a Halloween party for younger children,
which was a social activity involving fun and organizing and doing.
It was also a community service by the youth ministry.
The
group is already planning how to help meet the needs of others during the
Christmas season and are seeking to join parishes within our cluster to
hold a youth Mass sometime in the future. Members would like to
attend a Youthfest in Philadelphia to learn more about the role of the
youth ministry in today's church.
Meetings
usually are held once a month; in between meetings, letters and e-mails go
out to members. Jennifer appreciates the willingness of members to
share in this stewardship of time and talent by being part of this
ministry. Anyone who would like to become part of this ministry, or
to get more information, please contact Jennifer Elliott or her assistant
Dana McClellan at our parish office at (610) 444-4364.
