St. Pat’s has a very active Charismatic Prayer Group. For the past
32* years parishioners have gathered at 7:30
p.m. on Thursday night in the Church basement. They come together to give God praise and thanks.
The Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church is based on the experience of the presence and work of the Holy Spirit. The meeting has a lot of joyful singing, spontaneous prayer, times of silent prayer, and a time for listening to God’s word.
During the meeting there are teachings and prayers of intercession. People share informally about what God is doing in their lives. Each week time is set aside for those who need prayer for healing. Teachings in the form of “Life of the Spirit Seminars” are conducted in the parish. Occasionally, special Masses are offered. Annual events include a Communion Breakfast, summer picnic, and a Christmas party. Once each month a combined prayer meeting is held with other parish prayer groups in southern Chester County.
During the year there are opportunities for relationships with the larger charismatic community. Chester County prayer groups have a combined prayer meeting, a healing Mass, and a covered dish dinner. Rallies, retreats, teachings, and prayer meetings are held in Philadelphia at the seminary and at Archdiocesan high schools. Rallies and teachings are also held at the national and international
level.
