CONQUEST:
This is a story about a young woman who had no use for St. Therese. The first time she read the Story of a Soul she was completely "turned off." She felt that Therese was triumphalistic in her attitude. In fact the only thing she could say after reading the Story of a Soul was: "The only reason I believe Therese is a Saint is because the Church says so!" Well, that was enough of a challenge for our Missionary Saint. Soon after this opinionated young woman came across a book that had been on the bookshelf in her home for many years. It was only after reading the Story of a Soul that she made the connection it was about the famous Therese of Lisieux. The name of the book was "Written in Heaven" by Francis Parkinson Keyes. Pure curiosity led this young lady to pick it up. For whatever reason when she put the book down, she had become a fervent "convert" of St. Therese and also to her Little Way!
REQUEST:
It seems that a person living in the Southwest desired to have a rose garden. However, the ground where she wanted to put it was extremely poor. Roses just wouldn't survive. So, who should one pray to for a succesful rose garden, but Therese of Lisieux - "the showerer of roses." Fervent prayers ascended to Heaven asking the little Saint to do something about the situation. Strangely, what should show up but a COW to enrich the poor soil! Soon after, beautiful roses appeared in the land. And the cow disappeared!!
PUT TO THE TEST:
This is about a poor woman who was having a plumbing problem. After several attempts to get a plumber out to the site, she began a Novena to Therese for help. In this particular novena, it asks Therese to send a rose from the heavenly gardens as a message of love. After a few days of this prayer the woman in desperation said to Therese: "Forget the rose. Just send me a plumber!" The next morning bright and early someone rang the doorbell. Upon opening the door, who should be standing there but a confused looking PLUMBER saying: "Lady I don't know why I'm here this early, but where is the trouble!"
