It wasn’t until May 29,
2004 that President Bush dedicated the World War II Memorial to honor “The
Greatest Generation.” Regrettably today, very few of these elderly veterans
have the funds or strength necessary to complete a conventional trip to
Washington D.C. via commercial airline, car or bus.
It is our intention to
honor as many of these selfless “ordinary people who saved the world” as we
can by providing them a free trip to visit their Memorial—they have already
given enough on behalf of all Americans. Our program operates on donations
from local organizations and individuals from around the country. Our
volunteer guardians pay their own way and personally escort the
veterans on the aircraft, accompany them to the memorials throughout the
day, and then escort them back during the return flight. It costs $375 a
person to make this trip with Pride and Honor Flights Mi. Inc. the tour bus
service, tee shirts, scooters, wheel chairs and meals are all provided.
All contributions are tax deductible. Please make
checks payable and mail to

We have contacted several
veterans who have previously taken the trip. When we asked them what was the
most memorable part of their entire outing, the answer was always the
same—it was the appreciation, admiration and sincere gratitude shown to them
for their service by complete strangers, youngsters and other tourists.
That memory will remain with them for the rest of their lives. You can help
build those memories by recognizing them for their service.
Please notify your family
and friends. We are looking for WWII Veterans, guardians, financial donors,
fundraising ideas, and workers to help us in the busy days to come. We
would be most grateful if you could help us in any way to gather more funds
for this worthy project. The youngest living WWII Veteran is 80 and the
oldest is about 102. They are dying at 1200 per day, so we don’t have much
time left. Therefore, we need to take all the vets we can on each trip.
Thank you in advance for anything you can do to make this dream a reality.
If you have a group who would like to put on a fund
raiser to help with this, please contact Faye right away. Our team will
come and help with anything you have in mind.

Will Rogers once said, “We
can't all be heroes. Some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they
go by.” The Pride and Honor Flight program, at its best, will never be
anything more than a bunch of dedicated individuals clapping as the real
heroes go by. This is their "last hurrah" and the spotlight is on them.
