Sequela
The Journal of Faith, Fasting and Feasting

The official journal of the Human Family Foundation, "Sequela" is short for "Sequela Christi" (the following of Christ). This holding fast to the very person of Jesus is the simple essence of the Christian life. (cf. VS, 19)

Defending the Church

The Controversy over Communion and Pro-Abortion Politicians

John Kerry's claim to be Catholic and his steadfast support of abortion, euthanasia, same-sex unions and human embryo research has created a unique situation in the history of the Catholic Church in the United States. The bishops in the United States have to face the possibility of a president who openly defies Church teaching while claiming to be Catholic at the same time.

Ever since John F. Kennedy, scores of Catholic politicians have been thumbing their noses at the Church by supporting issues contrary to Catholic teaching while taking part in the Church, namely receiving communion, as if they were Catholics in good standing.

Thankfully a number of bishops have recently started the address the issue with strong statements and the media is helping to keep the stories in the public view. These bishops need our support and prayers so that their strong words will be backed with equally strong action.
