Diocese of Oakland "We are a culturally diverse community of Catholics living in the Northern California counties of Alameda and Contra Costa, under the spiritual leadership of The Most Reverend Allen H. Vigneron. As a gospel people, we not gather for worship, but share our faith in many different ways. We are a vibrant community because of the many gifts and talents of our members." |

Over 500,000 Catholics make their home in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, the territory of the Diocese of Oakland. There are about 90 parishes in our diocese. The people of the Diocese of Oakland come from all continents and celebrate their Catholic heritage in a variety of languages. Our diocese was founded in 1962, with Bishop Floyd Begin as our first leader. John S. Cummins was our bishop from 1977 to 2003. We are now led by Bishop Allen Vigneron. If you would like a copy of the current Diocesan Directory, we would be happy to provide you with one.
