Student Organizations / Activities

 

Altar Servers

The purpose of this organization is to train boys and girls for church service and to direct their attention and love toward liturgical services. Students in grades 3 - 8 may participate.

Basketball Team

The basketball team is sponsored by the HSA, is coached by parent volunteers, and competes in the local Catholic School League. All practices and games are held outside of school. Students in grades 4 - 8 are eligible to play on the team. Third grade students may participate in practices and prepare to be on the team the following season.

Soccer Team

The Soccer Team is sponsored by the HSA, is coached by parent volunteers, and competes in the local Catholic School League. Students in grades 4 - 8 are eligible to play on the team. Third graders may participate in practices to prepare for future membership.

Children of Mary

The Sodality has a long history in St. Joseph School. It is an organization which meets monthly and fosters strong devotion to the
Blessed Mother. It's activities reflect knowledge of Mary's handling of the challenges of life. Membership is open to all students in Grades 3-8 of the school and parish.


Choir

The
Children's Choir performs in St. Joseph Church, leading the congregation in song during the liturgy several times each year. Choir dates are scheduled throughout the school year.


Drama Club

Students in the Grades 4-8 may participate in this program. A student musical or drama production is scheduled for each spring.


Field Trips

Field trips within our city and other nearby points of interest are scheduled by the classroom teachers throughout the school year. These trips are designed to supplement the classroom curriculum and to introduce students to community resources.

Parents receive notices of field trips well in advance of the trip date and are asked to sign permission forms. Money may be requested from each student to help defray the cost of transportation or facility admission fees.


First Friday Mass
Mass is offered in the church at 8:00 a.m. on the first Friday of each month. All students attend and parents and family are welcomed.


Foreign Language

Spanish is currently offered in Grades 3-8.

Future Musicians Inc. ( FMI )

Weekly band instrument lessons are taught in grades 4 - 8, and the students participate in two concerts per school year. Families must provide their own instruments, rentals are available.


Leadership Team

The purpose of the St. Joseph Student Leadership Team is to prepare students to further their education and plan future careers. Students form their own Student Council, plan social events and fund raisers, perform community service, and serve as mentors to the younger students.
