There are several methods involved in evaluating students at St. Joseph School.

* Testing - Testing is an important phase of the educational program. This includes, informal daily quizzes, and informal tests developed by the teacher, and annual testing program as required by the Diocese of Norwich.

* Progress Reports - These are issued halfway through each marking period. They give parents an assessment of student progress.

* Report Cards - Report Cards are issued at the end of every quarter of the school year. There are four types of report cards :

1. Pre-Kindergarten
2. Kindergarten
3. Primary Grades 1-3
4. Upper Grades 4-8

Student of The Month

Each month this award is given to a student who excels in studies, is respectful, polite, helpful, volunteers services, etc. A student from each class is selected monthly and presented a certificate following the First Friday Mass in St. Joseph School.

Textbooks

The school provides textbooks and workbooks for every student.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled during the month of November and they are held at the request of the parent, principal or teacher at any time during the school year. The teacher is able to report on the student's school performance and receive insight from the parent on problems that might confront the child at home.

Homework

Homework is an extension of the learning that takes place in the classroom. It provides practice that reinforces classroom learning and opportunities for independent study, research and creative thinking. Parents can help their children by arranging a quiet comfortable place for them to work at home and by seeing that assignments are completed.

The amount of homework time varies from grade to grade.
