As the newly-elected President of the UCM I should like to tell you how I personally became involved. One day after Mass a friend suggested coming along to a meeting and see what they got up to. A warm welcome awaited me: fourteen years on I can say that we have a lot to offer. All ladies of the parish are welcome: married, single, mothers or not, we know you all have special talents to offer and we have much to give. Over the years I have gained friends, a listening ear and spiritual comfort, and we have some great fun too.

The programme we offer is varied, social and spiritual. We have enjoyed some memorable outings in recent years, to Canterbury, Bath, Stratford Upon Avon, and Flint in Wales. We also have an annual outing to Walsingham in July each year; we join about 4,000 other women from parishes all over the country for the UCM pilgrimage - and the sun always shines!

As we near the beginning of Lent, our meetings take on a more reflective feeling. We assisted Father Chris with a Passover meal which reminded us of the Jewish roots of our Mass. This was a new experience in our parish life; I do hope everyone enjoyed the evening.

Later on in the year we are arranging a day’s outing to Ely, where we will have the opportunity to explore Ely Cathedral, or take a boat trip, or simply enjoy the countryside, so watch this space!

We have many members all over the country, and on a national level we strive to raise awareness of family, Christian values, justice and peace.

Ladies, do think about coming along - you will be very welcome. We meet at 8.00p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Hall. If you have any questions or would like to know more, we would be pleased to help. Either contact me, Carol McDonagh, on LB374080 or the UCM secretary Margaret Cherry, on LB755972 .
