CONFESSIONS
Saturday:
Collection: Last week’s plate collection came to £520.18 Thank you. Mayor's Service: Or to give it its full title: A civic Service of Thanksgiving. for the second successive year, the service is being held here at Sacred Heart. It's not a private service (no service at a Catholic church is supposed to be), so if you feel so inclined you are perfectly welcome to come along. Evergreens: Evergreens meet on 8th March at 2:00pm, with Stations of the Cross in church, followed by refreshments and raffle in the hall. New Rotas: The new rotas for our eucharistic ministers and readers are now available in the usual place in the Repository. OXJAM Festival: The 2010 Leighton Buzzard OXJAM Festival runs from 6th to 27th March. The programme this year lists 20 musical events in aid of Oxfam, from rock, through jazz and folk to classical and choral. The first week includes an open rehearsal of the Heath Band on 10th March, 8:00pm to 10:00pm, at Heath Barn, and on 12th there will be an organ recital at All Saints Church at 1:00pm, and a Jazz concert at Vandyke School at 7:30pm, On 13th you can listen to music at the Market Cross between 10:30am and 3:30pm, and then a line up of bands at the Theatre at 7:30pm. Full details at www.iloveleightonbuzzard.com, or edmund.flach@btopenworld.com telephone 378262. Fairtrade Stall: Open this weekend with their usual selection of Fairtrade items. They will also have a selection of seasonal goods both for the weekend and for Easter on our next stall 27th/28th March, so do stock up in time. Live Simply Challenge - An Update: Thanks to everyone who contributed pledges on what they would do in 2010 to help the environment. We had lots of ideas around people looking to car share, cycle to work & school and walking to church. Another popular topic was water saving like using water butts and having showers. firstly, food was a big issue to those who pledged, half the comments related to it. Next was saving resources, so we are gathering information on how to best reduce gas, electricity and water in the church. In the forthcoming Contact magazine we will have an article on what we have planned, and what help we will need to take our plan forward. Wildlife Warriors: Another of those occasional lectures hosted by St Paul's Catholic School in Milton Keynes: speaker Linley Brown, zookeeper & conservation worker, will talk about recent extinctions and what is being done for animal conservation. A selection of animals will also be attending the lecture to raise awareness for their wild counterparts and habitat protection (and possibly terrorise the audience!) 18th March at 7:30pm, Room A109. enquiries: 01908 669735. Admission free. Spotlight On Tea: Together the UK's top five tea brands account for 72% of the UK market. With over 20 million people in the developing world reliant on the tea industry, it is a vital focus in the fight against poverty. Traidcraft and the WI are promoting a campaign to urge the UK's largest tea brands to switch to Fairtrade. Please support the campaign by picking up a campaign postcard from the Traidcraft Stall after Mass or email the five brands and ask them to switch to Fairtrade. www.makeitfair.org.uk.
