CONFESSIONS
Saturday:
Collection: Last week’s plate collection came to £542.08. Thank you. Second Collection: There is a second collection this weekend for the Sick & Retired Clergy Fund. Christmas Bazaar: Many thanks to all of you who have already brought items for the bazaar. For the next couple of weeks please bring along groceries - all within the sell-by date of course. The Bazaar itself will be held on 5th December. Christmas Bazaar Grand Draw: The tickets for the Grand Draw are now available as you leave church today. 1st prize is a mini hi-fi, 2nd prize a meal for two at Mama Rosa's, 3rd prize six bottles of wine, and 4th prize a £20 M&S voucher. Please post the stubs and money through Fr John's front door. Confirmation 2010: Bishop Peter will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation here on 13th May 2010. Classes will start in January. There are forms at the back of the church for candidates, who need to be attending secondary school. Please return the forms to Fr John as soon as possible. Assisted Suicide: The Conference of Bishops has voiced its concerns about assisted suicide and the potential dangers of the DPP guidelines issued recently. Go to www.catholicchurch.org.uk for advice, then www.cps.gov.uk/consultations/as_policy.html. But, most importantly, please pray for those who are near suicide. The Livesimply Challenge 2009: Our third challenge: Reducing our impact on the climate. Here on earth there are no passengers - only crew! The world's poorest people are most at risk from climate change: please support CAFOD's Climate Justice campaign. Things like insufficient insulation, leaving lights on unnecessarily or overfilling the kettle all waste energy. Can I get myself to church in a more environmentally friendly way? Could I walk or cycle? Perhaps I could offer a spare seat in my car? Visit www.energysavingtrust.org.uk for more tips and ideas. Contact: Candlelight News: Our latest edition of Contact includes an article explaining our Candlelight Fund, which has been set up in memory of Fr Steve Reith. CAFOD has sent us a few copies of their Candlelight News, which you may like to read. They have invited us to include and article on Fr Steve for the next issue. Stop Climate Chaos: On 5th December, ahead of the UN's climate summit in Copenhagen, there will be a demonstration in London in support of action on climate change: "The Wave". The day will start with an ecumenical service at Westminster Central Hall at 11:00am, led by the Archbishop of Westminster, of you can join the march directly at Grosvenor Square at 12:00pm. It will be a peaceful event for all ages. If you would like more information, contact Nicky Wiseman on LB 851038, or see www.cafod.org.uk. Hello, Dolly!: Leighton Masqueraders present "Hello Dolly" at the Library Theatre, 25th-28th November at 7:30pm. Tickets from the Box Office, or phone 01582 818801. For details, see the poster on the notice board. Art In Cheddington: An art show to get you in the mood for the festive season: eight artists showing paintings, prints, sculpture, textiles and jewellery, at the home of Sacred Heart parishioner Christine Bass. From 27th to 29th November, 10:00am to 5:00pm, at 6 Town Farm, off High Street, Cheddington. Please park on the High Street, not in Town Farm. Free entry and refreshments, donations in aid of Iain Rennie Hospice at Home. Vocations Weekend: A weekend of prayer, reflection and discussion for men aged 18 and over who think that God might be calling them to the priesthood, or any who would just like to explore the idea. Starting at 7:00pm on 4th December and ending on 6th December. To be held in Luton. For more details, see the poster on the notice board.
