CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD - Latest News

Sunday 9.45am Mass

A few years ago the Children's Liturgy for the Sunday 9.45am Mass at Our Lady of Peace sadly had to close for a while. A dedicated team of parishioners and myself have started to put together a new programme, composed specially for our parish, so that we can begin to celebrate the Children's Liturgy at 9.45am Mass every Sunday. We cannot yet give a date for its launch. However, I would like to ask if there would be any parish parents/grandparents and others who may wish to assist as helpers or catechists?

It is a great way for you to get to know your Faith and to engage in the Church's work of handing on the Faith. You may feel you do not know enough about your Faith but part of the strength of the course being written is that it will not necessarily demand specialist knowledge for helpers or leaders of the Children's Liturgy. Of course, every volunteer would have to undergo a full CRB check. The ages of those children at whom this will be aimed is basically, following Our Lady of Peace Infant School, from reception through to end of Year 2. Year 3 children who will be receiving their First Holy Communion during the year will remain in the Church to follow the full Mass. Please do think of getting involved since it will help our children to grow in faith, hope and love. Contact: Fr David 01628 605764.

Our Lady of Peace Choir

OUR LADY OF PEACE CHOIR

Our choir has got off to a good start and we plan to do better! We have decided to hold weekly practices - every Wednesday evening from now on, so we can increase our repertoire and build our confidence and we would love to have more members. Singing in a choir is a wonderful experience, fulfilling and challenging all at once. It is also a lot of fun where you can meet new people and new friends. So please think about it and come along just to take a look if you wish. You will be most welcome. Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm to 8.30pm at Our Lady of Peace Church. We can confidently promise you a very enjoyable evening. We can confidently promise you a very enjoyable evening.

The PPC

The PPC Introduced to the Parish, July 2008

The Parish Pastoral Council

We are a group of dedicated parishioners who meet once a month to discuss parish matters. We represent all three churches. We have many new members and we feel we are making good decisions.

We have organised welcomers at Christmas time and at Easter - if you would like to help with this please inform one of the PPC.

We have raised money for the parish through dances, barbeques, quizzes and many more social events.

With the help of Philippe we have set up our parish website which we intend to update regularly.

A parishioner has donated toys for the children at 9.45 Mass on Sundays and you will find these at both porches.

Another member of the PPC has set up a children’s choir (see above) for the 9.45 Mass and has also organised youth Masses and other events for the youth in our parish.

We are open to ideas from parishioners about fundraising and any parish activity and we welcome your suggestions.

We are working closely with the steering group for Walking Humbly and look forward to working with their ideas and decisions.

Our work in the PPC is to try and alleviate some of the every day tasks from Father David.

Maureen Waters, former PPC member

The next Parish Council Meeting will be held on Monday 20th February at 7.30 pm at Our Lady of Peace.

CALL FOR CLOTHING

The London and Slough Run have an urgent need for warm clothing. Our stocks have depleted significantly and we are no longer in a position to offer decent clothing to the people on the street. If you are planning a clear-out we would be extremely grateful for the items listed below: (please note we need men's clothes more urgently than women's. Fortunately, we have no need of children's clothes at all) warm sweaters, trousers, jeans, socks, hats, scarves, gloves, jackets and coats. Also sleeping bags are very much needed - have you any in the attic that you no longer use?

Please note we cannot use nor store any household objects of any kind and would be grateful if these were not donated as we have great difficulty in getting rid of them afterwards. As always, we are extremely grateful for your continued kindness and support. For further information, please contact Bob Bryant: 01628 543650.
