The Easter Triduum

Lamb of God graphic
April 21st - 24th

The Easter Triduum begins with the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil and closes with Evening Prayer on Easter Sunday. Central to our Catholic faith is celebrating these days to the full. Try to look on these days as one whole mini liturgical season. Every Sunday is a celebration of the Death and Resurrection of the Lord. The Easter Triduum is our celebration of one Sunday with all our might over a holy period of three days.

On Good Friday (and if possible on Holy Saturday) the Easter Fast in observed. Our obligation is to keep a day of fasting and abstinence on Good Friday. The invitation is to live the whole time from the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper until the Easter Vigil in a spirit of yearning and anticipation. To cut back on our food and drink and on unnecessary activities and entertainments. We are called as Catholic Christians to put aside our business-as-usual for these holiest of all holy days.
