Words Of Wisdom
The spirit of wisdom, as we discover in today’s first reading, comes to those who pray for her. Wisdom, like the word of God, carries a message of consolation as well as of great challenge. The Letter to the Hebrews tells us that the word of God, infused with the wisdom of God, is “sharper than any twoedged sword.” We cannot shrink from the wisdom of God, or from the word that has the power to penetrate our hearts and minds. Jesus, the living word of God, the embodiment of wisdom, has strong, deeply penetrating words for the rich young man who comes to him seeking answers to his most profound questions. Just when the young man thought he had done enough to fulfill God’s commands, more was asked of him. This is no less true for us.

Respect Life Sunday

"How is it possible to speak of the dignity of every human person when the killing of the weakest and most innocent is permitted?... In the name of what justice is the most unjust of discriminations practiced: some individuals are held to be deserving of defense and others are denied that dignity?"
     -Pope John Paul II

We ask and pray for continued support this year; and also your prayers for a greater Respect for Life in our society. Thank You !!!

Prayer For Life
O God, our Creator,
All life is in your hands
from conception until death.
Help us to cherish our children
and to reverence the awesome privilege
of our share in creation.
May all people live and die in dignity and love.
Bless those who defend the rights
of the unborn, the disabled and the aged.
Enlighten and be merciful toward those
who fail to love,
And give them peace.
Let freedom be tempered by responsibility,
integrity and morality.

Christopher Columbus Day Parade
This Sunday, October 11, 2009, will be the “33rd Annual Columbus Day Parade” on Morris Park Avenue. Our own Mrs. Loretta Mangieri will be the Honorary Grand Marshall.

World Mission Sunday
Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday. United with the Catholics of the world at the Table of the Lord, we recommit ourselves to our vocation, through Baptism, to be missionaries. Our prayers and Eucharistic celebration next Sunday are directed in a special way toward our brothers and sisters throughout the world who are waiting to hear the joyous “Good News” of Jesus. Our offerings, through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, will support the work and witness of those who selflessly give up all for the sake of our Lord and His Gospel-the local priests, Religious, and lay catechists who daily provide loving service to the poor and suffering of the Developing World.
