The Calm Before The Storm
This seventh Sunday of Easter is somewhat like the proverbial "calm before the storm." The Lord Jesus has ascended into heaven and Pentecost has not yet occurred. Rather than immediately taking up Jesus' command to go out to all the nations, the disciples gather in the upper room "with some women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers" (Acts 1:14). There they all devote themselves to prayer. The Gospel recounts the great prayer for the disciples that Jesus offered to his Father in heaven. If the words of Jesus while he was on earth finally began to sink in for the disciples, then gathering to pray was certainly the right choice, for the second reading lets us all know that to follow Christ means to have a share in his sufferings.

Special Collection
Next weekend, at all the masses, our parish will take up The Catholic Relief Services Collection. This collection makes possible the mission of the Catholic church to combat poverty, provide relief and development, assist refugees and immigrants, and advocate for justice and peace in situations of conflict and neglect of basic human rights throughout the world.

Please help by giving to this collection next Sunday.

"Through the eyes of faith, the starving child, the believer in jail, and the woman without clean water or health care are not issues, but Jesus in disguise."

From the Pastor
I wish to sincerely thank all of you for your prayers, cards, telephone calls and good wishes while I was in the hospital and away from the parish. It was a great consolation to me to know that so many of you were praying for me. I am sure that the prayers were the reason for my speedy recovery and return. A word of special thanks to Fr. Dennis and Fr. Macchietto and also my secretaries, Marie and Paula, and the wonderful school staff for taking excellent care of St. Clare's in my absence. God bless all of you!!

I wish to thank all of you also for your generosity this year to the Easter collection. Because of my surgery, thank you letters will not be mailed out. However, I'm sure you all are aware of my gratitude to you.

Congratulations are in order to Lloyd Thompkins, our Director of Music. He has been with us for twenty-five years. We have been extremely fortunate to have a person talented not only in playing the organ but also in directing a marvelous choir. His tireless efforts are clearly seen in our beautiful liturgies. We are most grateful and thankful to Lloyd and may God grant him many more years with us.
