ST. PETER'S CHURCH (1831)   Grand and Van Vorst streets

Nestled in the heart of the historic Paulus Hook district, St. Peter's is the first Catholic Church in Jersey City.  The present structure is the second church building to stand on this site since the Jesuit community first settled here in 1870.  Constructed in 1960, St. Peter's is fully air-conditioned and handicapped-accessible, and has convenient off- street parking for Sunday services.

Though in a quiet residential area, St. Peter's is within easy walking distance of the financial center at Exchange Place, and serves the working community for mass daily and on Holy Days.

ST. MARY'S CHURCH (1854)  Second and Erie streets

St. Mary's, first built is 1861, was the second oldest parish in Jersey City, but the church that now dominates Erie Street on the block between Second and Third Streets wasn't built until 1903. St. Mary's still wears proudly the signs of craftsmanship that bears witness to the dedication of the Italian and Irish immigrants who helped build the church. Intricate tiles and stained glass windows give the stately edifice a bright yet cozy feeling that belies its size.

The church offers masses in Spanish and English, as well as prayer groups for the Spanish and Filipino communities. St. Mary's also serves as a center of education, as one of two parish sites for religious education programs, and as the home of St. Mary's High School.

ST. BONIFACE CHURCH (1863)  262 First Street

Tucked among the brownstones on First Street, St. Boniface Church is a little jewel in the Resurrection Parish. Originally built more than 130 years ago to serve the downtown area's German Catholic immigrants, today St. Boniface is the spiritual home for many of the parish's Spanish-speaking members. The small intimate church is the center of a vibrant community that hosts a weekly Spanish-speaking prayer group and bible study group. St. Boniface is also home to one of our food Pantries.

Resurrection Parish has broaden its outreach efforts by providing a Spanish and English bookstore at St. Boniface.

ST. MICHAEL'S CHURCH (1867)  252 Ninth Street

St. Michael's Church, overlooking historic Hamilton Park, is one of the Parish of the Resurrection's best-kept secrets. A warm, welcoming community, St. Michael's is home to an ethnically diverse congregation.

Mass is offered in English and Vietnamese. On Tuesdays, parishioners and visitors alike flock to St. Michael's for Benediction and the Novena to St. Jude, offered several times during the day. It is also the site of the Vietnamese Apostolate in the Newark Archdiocese.

Blessed with extraordinary acoustics, St. Michael's has had an important tradition of music. The church possesses a 1927-era three-manual E.M. Skinner organ, with speaking pipes in the sanctuary and the nave. Apart from seasonal music programs presented by St. Michael's choir, the church is host to the Schola Cantorum on Hudson, a resident choral society that presents an annual schedule of concerts, in addition to classes in sight-reading, music appreciation and vocal production.

ST. BRIDGET'S CHURCH (1869)  370 Montgomery Street

This red brick Italian Gothic church formally opened its doors in 1887. Today it houses the parish business office, a bustling day-care center and grammar school, a meeting room for youth of the parish, and a religious education center for both children and adults. St. Bridget's church, with its spacious rear section, is an ideal location for large and small meetings and retreats.

St. Bridget's continues to be a worship and gathering place for the descendents of the Irish, Italian and Polish settlers who founded it, as well as the many Filipino and Spanish groups who have moved into the neighborhood. St. Bridget's also boasts two great volunteer choirs, one in English and one in Spanish, which add greatly to the prayerful worship experience.
