Viva
Cristo Rey!
“…the
most important question to ask on the feast of Christ the King is not whether
he reigns in the world but whether he reigns in me; it is not whether his
kingship is recognized by states and governments, but whether it is
recognized and lived in me.
Is Christ the King and Lord of my life? Who rules in me, who determines the
goals and establishes priorities: Christ or someone else? According to St.
Paul, there are two ways to live: either for ourselves or for the Lord
(Romans 14:7-9). Living “for ourselves” means living like someone who
takes himself to be the beginning and the end; it is a life closed in on
itself, drawn only by its own satisfaction and glory, without any perspective
of eternity. Living “for the Lord,” on the contrary, means living for the
Lord, that is, with a view to him, for his glory, for his kingdom.
What we have here is truly a new existence, in the face of which, death
itself has lost its definitiveness. The greatest contradiction that man has
always experienced -- that between life and death -- has been overcome. The
contradiction is no longer between “living” and “dying” but between
living “for ourselves” and living “for the Lord.”

BILL C-384
On Friday, October 2, 2009, Bill C-384 -- the private member's
bill introduced by Francine Lalonde (BQ) to legalize euthanasia and assisted
suicide in Canada -- received its first hour of debate in the House of
Commons.
Parliamentary procedure states that a private member's bill receives two
hours of debate before being voted on at second reading. C-384 is tentatively
scheduled to receive its second hour of debate on November 16, 2009.
If passed, this dangerous pro-euthanasia and pro-assisted suicide
Bill would allow for the untimely deaths of vulnerable Canadians.
For more information and to see documents pertaining to the Bill

Mass Intentions
Mass intentions for weekend Liturgies are presently
booked through to the middle of November.
While there is still some availability for weekdays during October,
those wishing to assure that they have their desired intentions reserved over
the next two months are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.
Would you be interested in reading at Mass, or perhaps you would be willing to help with the distribution of the Eucharist. Maybe you could help with the greeting at the door of the church and the taking up of the collection. These and other vehicles of service to the parish are consistently in need of greater numbers. If you wish to have more information on some aspect of service, either in the Sanctuary or behind the scenes, please speak with Father Joe, Gene Gauzer, or Pierre Joncas.
See the Bulletin Board for copies of “The Grapevine”.
Electronic
Bulletin
Would
you like to receive the Bulletin by e-mail?
We would be happy to accommodate you in this way. As well, you can
sign up to be on the mailing list for the “Grapevine,” the weekly
bulletin from the department of English Pastoral Services, and for the
“Weekly Message” and information sheet from the office of Cardinal
Turcotte. All three of these
documents can be sent to your computer as an easy way of being informed as to
events on the parish, English and diocesan levels of the church of Montreal.
Marriages for 2009
If you are planning on getting married in 2009, it is time to register with the parish. The archdiocese of Montreal requires a notification period of no less than 6 months prior to the desired date for the Wedding. This period of time allows the various actions, such as the collection of documents and the completion of paperwork and registration to take place in a timely fashion. As well, a preparation process that is duly sanctioned must be undergone.

such a desire may be a different matter.
We encourage you to ask for prayers, both from Father Joe and from the
parish, but that for public petitions, you do so with these provisions in
mind.
Please
