Primary:            Pre-Kindergarten-Grade 2
Intermediate:    Grades 3- 5
Upper School:  Grades 6-8

FACTS & INFORMATION

·        Heart of Mary School is located on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue between Broad and Congress Streets.

·        The campus encompasses two buildings with three grade divisions: Primary, Intermediate, Upper School.

·        The school serves students from Pre-Kindergarten to Eighth grade. Four year old students are accepted for Heart of Mary full day Pre-Kindergarten program.

·        Heart of Mary benefits from Title 1 funds and participates in the Alabama Reading First Initiative program.  The ARFI program is offered after school for students needing this assistance.

·        All students must carry at least a “C” average to be considered for promotion to the next grade level.

·        A “C” average and acceptable conduct must be attained to be eligible for sports and/or cheerleading.

·        Accelerated classes are formed to advance students showing outstanding ability. Generally, these classes advance Primary and Intermediate level students.

·        Primary students needing additional reinforcement are scheduled into additional classes with the Resource Teacher.  Additional help is available after school hours by appointment with the teacher or in an on-site after-school program and also at the adjacent Dearborn Community Center.

·        All students are expected to do homework at least four days a week and take study seriously. Homework, class participation, quick check tests, major tests and projects are sources of assessment.
