Adult Confirmation

Under the Office of Evangelization, we are responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing and coordinating of the Rite of Confirmation for all adults of the Diocese.

General Information

The Diocese of Metuchen offers Adult Confirmation to Catholic Adults who have been Baptized and have received First Communion in the Catholic Church but who have NOT received the Sacrament of Confirmation. This sacrament is celebrated at the Metuchen Cathedral with the Bishop as the celebrant.

What is the first step?

Any Adult Catholic who would like to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation should call their parish office for more information. Instruction required for the reception of this sacrament is provided in each parish.

Notice to Adult Confirmation Directors:

Registration forms for adult confirmation candidates have been mailed to each parish. If you are the adult confirmation coordinator in your parish and you did not receive a packet from our office, that means we do not have you on our contact list. Please contact us. If you are not on our list, all the information went to your pastor.

All candidates and sponsors MUST attend rehearsal/evening of prayer Sacrament of Reconciliation will be offered on both evenings. Several priests will be hearing confession on each evening. PLEASE encourage candidates to celebrate Sacrament of Reconciliation at that time. A penance service will be part of the prayer service.
