Secular Franciscans are a community of Catholic men and women in the world ( single, married, separated, divorced ) and diocesan priests who seek to pattern their lives after Christ in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. We believe that as human beings and Christians we cannot fulfill it alone. In our common response to the gospel, we work together in community toward a deep evangelical life and toward communion with all people.

We are united in an international Order founded by St. Francis of Assisi. Secular Franciscans assemble once a month as a true spiritual family in sisterhood and brotherhood called "Fraternity". We are expected to attend the monthly gathering to meet with each other, to rekindle our Franciscan ideals and to recieve nourishment for our spiritual life.

Secular Franciscans are to pray daily for the Church and for the world and to imitate the prayer life of St. Francis of Assisi. He put great emphasis on the " spirit of prayer and devotion", and the intense, simple and spontaneous nature of his prayer is summarized in his famous prayer: " My God and my All!"

The following list of specific prayer-practices are all recommended by the S.F.O. (Secular Franciscan Order ) Constitutions and should if possible be used: At the very least, every Secular Franciscan should desire a life of union with Christ in prayer. Daily Mass, frequent Confession and Communion, Mental Prayer (Meditation, Contemplation), Scripture Prayer, Liturgy of the hours/Christian Prayer/Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Seraphic Office of Twelve our Fathers, Hail Marys,Grace before and after meals, Rosary/Franciscan Crown, Angelus, Stations of the Cross.
