Province of the Sacred Heart
The Franciscan Province of the Sacred Heart serves in a variety of
ministries throughout the Midwest of the United States as well as in
Alaska, Brazil, Zaire, and China. Over their more than one hundred years
of existence they have tried to respond to the needs of people with the
spirit of Francis and Clare of Assisi, who expressed their deep love of
God by loving their neighbor, especially the ones in most need.
Living together as brothers, they have a particular affinity for the poor
and disadvantaged. They desire to walk with those who feel they are
powerless, to speak with those whose voices often are not heard, and to
associate with those who are neglected and rejected in our society. They
seek to respect each person as created by God with dignity. They are
committed to be peacemakers in a world of violence, seekers of justice
in an unjust world, and promoters of the integrity of all creation. They
attempt to bring Gospel values to all situations and to all of humankind.
Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

was himself a Penitent, but he gave this movement a new direction and
spirit. The Third Order Regular of St. Francis has since become an
international religious community serving God's people in many countries
throughout the world.
