The first meeting of the Asian Ecumenical Committee was held at St Margaret’s Convent, Sri Lanka, Colombo on January 14-15, 1997. AEC is comprised of 7 members from FABC and 7 from CCA. They are:

Federation Asian Bishops' Conference (FABC)

Bishop Deogracias Iniguez from Philippines

At the first meeting, members deliberated on various matters and some of the highlights were:

• Preparation towards a second ACMU in 1998
• Joint Publications of ACMU news and other common literatures
• Directory of Centers for Migrant Workers in Asia
• Worship Booklet for Ecumenical gatherings
• Asian Celebration on the Year 2000
• Sharing CCA-FABC documentation, information via the Internet.
