Welcome Message from Rev. Fr. Simon Kontou
Welcome to the website of St. Mary's Parish of Sandakan. Thanks for visiting. Sandakan, situated on the east coast of the State of Sabah, Malaysia, is one of the earliest places in Sabah where the Mill Hill Missionaries first set their feet in over a hundred years ago. The St. Mary's Parish of Sandakan is one of the parishes within the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Kota Kinabalu, a diocese constituted on May 31, 1976 with the ordination of Rt. Rev. Simon Fung as the first Sabahan Bishop. Our parish is the largest in terms of area, covering some of the remotest parts of the Diocese of Kota Kinabalu. We have to travel by land and sea, and even sometimes by air, to visit our parishioners, with our nearest neighbouring parish to be reached by car two and a half hours drive away. The aim of this homepage is to provide the visitors with a basic outline of the Parish, its clergy, its peoples, its organizations and its history. We are eager to serve and even more eager to learn. We appreciate your inquiries and comments.
Rev. Fr. Simon Kontou, Parish Priest.
