The job of educating young Catholics in the faith and of preparing them for the rites of initiation that move them forward to full participation is an important one. Over the years, Holy Cross has had a succession of wonderful teachers who have given of themselves to help our young people learn the joy of being Christian. In the years before Holy Cross was a parish, a lay leader, Ramona Sutphin, spearheaded religious education efforts. A succession of devoted lay helpers provided classes for the children of Holy Cross. Sister Miriam Merrick was the first official director of religious education in 1973, the year we became a parish. She set up the first CCD classes, helped spin off the Guadalupe CYO group into Holy Cross, and formed a young people's singing group.

In 1981, the Sisters of Notre Dame took over administration of the programs.   In order of service they were, Sisters Anita Brown, Cynthia Slate, Dolores Valladres, and Jane Buckley.

In 1992, the Sisters Devoted to the Sacred Heart (SDSH) moved in and continued to supply Holy Cross with a religious education director to guide the religious education of pre-schoolers, elementary and junior high groups until 2011, when our present Religious Education Director was appointed. Spanish classes are offered as well. Our goal to bring the confirmation program back to Holy Cross was successfully achieved in 2003-04. In order of service, we had Sisters Anna Tom, Claire Chang, Lisa Turray, Elizabeth Normanly, Doreen Reinke, Michelle Bittner, Debra Flander, Annette Chuy, Virginia Stewart and Carmen Acosta. Mrs. Phyllis Schwartz filled in one year when no Sister was available (after Sister Annette.)

Our present religious education director is Ms. Concepción Lehne.
