Potential Candidates at
Ultreya?
(cont. from page 1)
At the Ultreya, the
potential candidate is exposed to the crux of the Cursillo message . . .
the small group reunion where the 3 tenets of the Cursillo tripod are
discussed, a witness is given, and there is group discussion, a summary
and group prayer.
I now need to make a
brief explanation to you veteran Cursillistas who were taught about the
“secrets” of Cursillo. You
may feel that if you bring someone to Ultreya, you are revealing many of
these secrets. You are
not!! Times have changed. Today,
virtually all the secrets have been eliminated.
The only two which remain are Palanca and the Closing.
The wisdom behind the
Ultreya as an evangelization tool is to expose potential candidates to
the Cursillo method, the tripod, group prayer; a true Christian
Community. They won’t even realize they are already living the
Cursillo method, until they get to a weekend, and everything clicks.
They’ll get that big “Aha!”, and their eyes will be opened.
If my calculations are correct, they will continue attending
Ultreya, get into a small group, and maybe even bring a potential
candidate themselves. What a wonderful gift you will have given!
And how difficult is that?
I always hear from my
fellow Cursillistas how difficult it is to “close the deal” and ask
the potential candidate to attend the weekend.
We feel like we are nagging the potential candidate by asking
over and over. Then maybe
other well-meaning Cursillistas also ask, and the potential candidate
feels bombarded. Why not
let the faith, the prayers, and the living examples of the community do
the job for you? Then how powerful would it be to write the candidate’s name
in your Ultreya “candidate prayer book”, and pray for them to attend
a weekend right there at the Ultreya in their presence?
Odds are great that at
this point the candidate will close their own deal, and ASK YOU how they
can get registered for a weekend. Wow!
So . . . go out and
invite a potential candidate to your local Ultreya. My bet is that this technique will work for you.
Remember . . . Christ is counting on you!
Reporting for the E-Breeze, I’m Joe Lerza.

Weekend
Countdown (Tim Weinmann)
In our busy lives, time can
easily slip away from us and before we know it, the next set of weekends
will be here and we will
wonder where the time went. As one small aid to help us keep an
eye on the time, we've got weekend countdown clocks now appearing
several places within the Lexington Cursillo website - including the
front page of the E-Breeze..
With these countdowns appearing each
and every time you visit the E-Breeze web page, you now have a visible reminder
of just how close the weekends are. Each time the countdowns appear,
say a quick prayer for all those discerning an invitation to make their
weekend and those in our community who are still praying about and
working with those yet to be invited. Finally, pray for your own
potential candidates, that the Lord will guide you in your witness to
those who can join with us as we strive to bring Christ into all of our
environments.
Seeking out new candidates is
the responsibility of all Cursillistas and hopefully, these countdowns
will remind us all that time is passing by and encourage us to be about
the Lord's work in continuing to gather laborers for the vineyard.
