The Spiritual Director's Corner
Welcome to our two, count 'em, two, spiritual directors who Bishop Gainer has graciously appointed to provide spiritual guidance to our Cursillo movement here in the Diocese of Lexington.

- Deacon Bill Wakefield |
|
- Fr. Chris Clay |
| Bill
and Cheryl have lived in Lexington since 2000. Their three daughters live
in Nashville, Atlantic City, and Dayton; the pride of their family is a
one-year-old granddaughter, Addison Anne. Cheryl and Bill both made their
Cursillo weekends at Cedar Break Retreat Center (near Waco), Texas in
1978. Both have been active with the Cursillo method and movement since in
Texas, Germany, Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, and now in
Kentucky.
Bill attributes his conversion to the Catholic faith to the impact the Cursillo had on his life. Deacon Bill was ordained a Permanent Deacon on April 15, 1989 for the Archdiocese of Washington DC. Bill's professional career has been in health care; first in the Army as an aero medical evacuation pilot and in the private sector as health care administrator. Appointed in 2004 by Bishop Gainer, Deacon Bill currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the Diocese of Lexington. Deacon Bill also serves as deacon in the Saint Peter Parish, Lexington. |
Father
Christopher Catesby Clay Jr. is a native of Bourbon County, Kentucky. Born
the fifth of eight children to Elizabeth and Catesby Clay, he graduated
from Georgetown University in 1996 with a major in Spanish and
International Business. He returned to Lexington and worked as Managing
Editor for The Blood-Horse's MarketWatch, an investor newsletter that
analyzed the thoroughbred racing and breeding industry.
During his five years at The Blood-Horse, he had a greater awakening of his Catholic faith and discerned a call to the priesthood. He entered seminary in August of 2002 at Saint Meinrad School of Theology and made his first Cursillo weekend in April of 2004. He graduated from Saint Meinrad School of Theology with a Masters in Divinity in May of 2007. He was ordained by Bishop Ronald Gainer for the Diocese of Lexington on May 19, 2007, and started his first assignment as parochial vicar of the Cathedral of Christ the King on July 5. He was appointed Spiritual Director to Cursillo in the Fall of 2007. |
