General Information about Weekends

Sponsor and candidate forms can be accessed via the menu bar under "Weekends" at the top of the page. There are online and downloadable/printable options. Sponsors should familarize themselves with the Sponsor Guidelines that can be found on the menu bar under "Weekends." Remember to speak to God about the candidate before you speak to the candidate about Cursillo. Also on the menu bar under "Weekends," you can access information about current and past weekends.

What is a Cursillo Weekend?

The weekend is a short course in Christianity. On the weekend, participants learn how Cursillo, as a Catholic lay movement, promotes Catholic ideals, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Participants learn how the Cursillo method of piety, study, and action calls us to a personal encounter with Christ so that we can spread the Gospel by evangelizing our environments.

Twice a year, a Cursillo 3-day weekend is held (separately for men and women) at the Cliffview Retreat Center. The weekend introduces candidates to Cursillo and proposes the Cursillo method as an effective means to follow Jesus more faithfully. From Thursday evening until Sunday evening, lay people and clergy work together to gain a greater awareness of what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. The Cursillo weekend consists of talks (rollos), discussions, singing, worship and fellowship. You may make a Cursillo weekend only once in your life, but you are urged to build upon the foundation of the Cursillo weekend for the rest of your life.

After the weekend, activities are available to deepen our ongoing conversions and encourage us in our work of building up the Kingdom of God. For example, Cursillistas meet regularly in small reunion groups to share how they have encountered Christ and how they have pursued piety, study, and action. Additionally, Cursillistas typically attend Ultreyas, a larger reunion, where brief talks are given that build upon the central points presented at the Cursillo weekend. Finally, Cursillistas meet at the School of Leaders to learn how to faithfully grow in our spiritual lives and evangelize our environments.

Who attends a Cursillo weekend?

Typically, those who attend are baptized, committed Catholics who are able to receive the Sacraments. These individuals are currently active in their parishes or would like to become active. Weekend participants are generally interested in examining what it means to be a Christian in the world today.

Each room has a full bath and includes bedding, soap, and towels. Candidates should bring their own toiletries, including shampoo. All meals will be provided. Dress is comfortable and casual. Please bring appropriate clothes for Sunday Mass. Remember to pack your medications and other personal items that you will need. Bring a Rosary. We try to achieve a cloistered environment, so we ask you not to bring cell phones, laptops, radios, TVs, or other distractions. Alcohol or drugs (except of prescription medication) are prohibited.

Candidate applications require a $50 deposit, which is applied to your total cost. Rooms are double occupant at $255. A limited number of single occupant rooms ($300) are available for those who have special needs. Checks or money orders need to be made out to "Diocese of Lexington--CTK" and please add "Cursillo" to the memo line.. We realize that for some the cost of the weekend might be prohibitive.
