I. MESSAGE FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT:
Brother
Knights,
So many of you Knights contributed to the success of our Big Boy
Restaurant Fund Raiser for Seminarian Support, whether by working during the
evening, or simply by bringing your family out to dinner. Thank you all.
On
16 June, our Worthy District Deputy, Wayne Meier, assisted by his Worthy
District Warden, our PGK, Wayne Slomiany, presided
over the formal Installation Ceremony for the Elected Officers of our
council. Many of us had our wives or
other relatives present to witness our taking up our duties.
We
are looking forward to being an active council during the upcoming new
Fraternal Year, which begins on 01 July.
I hope that we will be able to add a few new activities to all of those
which we have been doing during the past year, and to improve the organization
of our council. Our keynote is to serve
the Lord and our brothers and sisters in Christ in our parish of Christ the
King, as well as to reach out to those in need in the surrounding community.
One
of my goals for this year is to set our council up in a division into (at
least) two service teams, in order to make such projects as the Sunday Coffee
& Donuts work more smoothly. Our
officers will be talking and praying about this and a number of other plans on
our Planning Retreat Day on 11 July.
Please ask the Lord to bless our deliberations.
Fraternally,
Grand
Knight Gene McKay
II. COUNCIL NEWS:
We
have received from the MI State Council the four checks for distribution to the
charities to which we voted to give our 80% portion of the
PRAYER REQUEST:
With
the economic downturn, we need to lift up in prayer all our brothers who are
unemployed or under employed.
COUNCIL SUNDAY COFFEE AND DONUTS :
One
of our commitments to our parish is to put on monthly the Sunday Coffee &
Donut service after the two morning Masses; normally this will be on the 4th
Sunday of the month. We will do the
C&D service on Sunday, 28 June. In
July, due to the Living in Love Married Couples Retreat weekend, our C&D
service has been postponed one week, to Sunday, 2 August. And because of that change, our regular
August C&D has also been postponed one week, to Sunday, 30 August. We will ask brothers to sign up for serving
at each of these at the immediately preceding council meeting; If you did not
yet sign up, you can also contact the GK to volunteer.
SUPREME SCHOLARSHIP FOR KNIGHT’S SON:
Our Brother Knight Robert Vipperman
and his wife, Sally, have announced that their son, Nicholas, has been awarded
a college scholarship by the Supreme Council.
It is a Percy J. Johnson Endowed Scholarship, which will provide Nick
with $1,500 per year, renewable for 4 years upon evidence of satisfactory
performance. Nick says he plans to
attend
Our Grand Knight received a copy of a letter sent
to Nicholas by our Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, congratulating him on his
receiving the scholarship.
The
scholarships are competitive and are awarded on the basis of academic
excellence. Selection is made after a
review of the secondary school record, class rank and the results of aptitude
test scores. To be considered eligible,
an applicant must be a member in good standing of the Knights of Columbus; the
son or daughter of such a member or of a deceased member who was in good standing
at the time of his death; or a member of the Columbian Squires. The
scholarships are given to freshmen entering college.
There are actually a good number of types of
scholarships available from the KofC. Details of those administered by the Supreme
Council are available on their website, at this address:
