Introduction to Stewardship
What is STEWARDSHIP anyway? Christian stewardship is the recognition that all we have - our relationships, our talents, our resources, our entire lives - have been given to us by our loving Father. It is our responsibility, and our delight as His children, to administer those gifts according to His will and for His glory. This page provides some resources that will hopefully help you come to a greater understanding of the integral role that stewardship is meant to play in our lives, as well as some practical resources.

For a quick introduction to stewardship and how it ties into our parish mission, start with our brochure Stewardship at Christ the King Catholic Church.

Homilies on Stewardship
We are blessed with wonderful homilists at Christ the King who have a God-given ability to highlight and explain for us the key truths of Scripture. Here is a selection of texts of homilies that our clergy have given on the topic of stewardship:

"Theology of Stewardship": Fr. Ed Fride, 1/26/2003

"Stewardship is about Conversion": Fr. Ed Fride, 10/31/2004

"God Can Be Trusted": Deacon Lou Russello, 11/7/2004

"Stewardship of Treasure": Deacon Gerry Holowicki, 11/7/2004

"Jesus is Coming": Fr. Ed Fride, 11/14/2004

Supporting the Parish Financially
Although stewardship involves much more than just money, people frequently ask questions about how they can support the parish financially. Christ the King makes contribution envelopes available for those who would like them mailed to their homes. Donors may also contribute directly from a bank account using Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT). Stock gifts may also be made to the parish through the Diocese of Lansing. Contact Theresa in the parish office (734-665-5040 or thofer@ctkcc.net) for more information.

Although the mainstay of our parish budget is parishioners’ tithes, there are a number of other ways that parishioners can support the parish finances:

CatholicBusinessPages.orgChrist the King has recently become an affiliate of CatholicBusinessPages.com, the new online Catholic business directory. For every business that signs up to advertise through our Web site, Christ the King receives a substantial donation, which is tax deductible to your business. Advertisers on CatholicBusinessPages.com support and endorse these three important tenets:
  • I respect the Catholic Faith and its moral principles.
  • I support efforts to protect human life from conception to natural death.
  • I desire to connect with Catholics in my community and pledge to provide them with fair, honest and reliable service.

Do you have an old car that you want to get rid of without going through the hassle of selling it? If you donate your car to Charity Motors and designate Christ the King as the recipient of the proceeds, you will get to claim the fair market "Blue Book" value of the car and Christ the King will get 70% of the proceeds from the car’s sale. For more information, call 888-908-2277 or go to charitymotors.org.

You or your business can sell items on eBay and donate 10-100% of the final sale price to the parish. eBay and MissionFish, a nonprofit organization specializing in online charitable auctions, have partnered to create eBay Giving Works. On average, eBay Giving Works items attract 20% more bids, sell 50% more often, and close with 40% higher prices. So it's not only easy, it's more effective to sell your items through eBay Giving Works! For more information or to register, go to pages.ebay.com/givingworks/sell.html or MissionFish.org.

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!Did you know you can earn money for the parish just by searching and shopping on the Internet? Just go to Goodsearch.com and select Christ the King as your cause. Then search the Internet as usual. Then search the Internet as usual. Since January 2007, Christ the King parishioners and friends have earned the parish almost $600!

If shopping online, click the "GoodShop" box in the lower part of the GoodSearch screen. Then access the online store of your choice through the GoodShop Web site and shop as usual. The store will donate a portion of your purchase to Christ the King. Over 1,000 stores and services are now available, including such popular sites as 1-800-Flowers, Amazon, eBay, Expedia, Lands' End, Overstock, Priceline, and Travelocity, with more being added all the time. At an average donation of 3% per vendor, the donations can add up fast!

For Hiller's shoppers, we have the Hiller's Scrip card program. Just pick up a Hiller's Scrip card at our office; the cards that we have are registered to Christ the King. Activate it at the Hiller's Customer Service Desk or at the checkout counter. Then load it with your own money (cash, check, or credit card) before the cashier starts ringing up your purchase, and use the card to pay for your purchases. Hiller's will rebate 5% of all purchases made with those Scrip cards to the parish! For more information or to obtain a card, contact Theresa or Dorothy in the Parish Office.

The Kroger Community Rewards fundraising program automatically credits Christ the King when you shop at Kroger using your Kroger Plus Card. The amount the parish receives each quarter depends on the total amount spent by our supporters in relation to those of other charities. Money earned from this program will go toward the Space Needs Fund. To sign up, go to krogercommunityrewards.com or contact Theresa in the Parish Office for full instructions.
