The sixth grade at Christ the King is split into two classes: one for the boys and one for the girls. Splitting the 6th grade by gender will allow the students to feel more comfortable expressing their thoughts as well as help to maintain a focus on the subject matter in a smaller group. Both classes will be covering the same material and will occasionally join together for certain topics/events. Sixth grade is only offered in the evening.

The goal of this year is for the students to develop a deeper understanding of the Mass and the Commandments. The year will begin with a Bible study on John 6 and lessons on the liturgy and parts of the Mass. This portion of the year will culminate in a class Mass where the students will participate as much as possible by doing the readings, bringing up the offertory etc. They will also be learning important hymns of the Church throughout the year

The second half of the year will focus on conscience formation and learning to live a moral life. They will cover the Commandments in a deeper way as they approach adolescence. .

The text for this year will be the Faith and Life Series for Grade 6: Following Christ.

Kara was one of the few who graduated Franciscan University with no plans of working in catechesis, but God has a sense of humor. She got over her fear of teens by working for 5 years with Christ the King's LifeTeen. She has been a parishioner of CTK for almost 10 years now and definitely prefers her first directory photo to the most recent one. Kara is ecstatically in love with her husband Steven and likes to talk in funny voices.

Andrea and her husband Kevin are members at Christ the King and have two young children. Andrea has a bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan, entered the Catholic church through RCIA at CTK in 2003, and has 9+ years of experience working with children and youth in various capacities in Michigan and upstate New York: summer camp counselor, elementary school special education aide, confirmation catechist and volunteer YoungLife and LifeTeen leader. This is Andrea's second year as a 6th grade catechist at CTK, and while she is a full-time "youth minister" at home, she is thankful for the opportunity to learn and grow in the faith while sharing its truth and beauty with middle school students at CTK.
