The Sacrament of Confirmation in this Diocese requires two years of preparation. Confirmation 1 is for 7th graders or any young people who are in 8th or 9th grade who have not been confirmed. Confirmation 2 is the second half of the preparation. Only those who have taken Confirmation 1 can register for this class.

Baptismal certificates are required. Sponsors will be chosen in the second year and must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. To find out more about choosing a sponsor, click here.

Confirmation 1 students will be inscribed as confirmandee in the Spring of 2013 and they will make a pilgrimage to St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing and visit with the Bishop. Confirmation 1 begins with six sessions on who Jesus is and then moves on to God's call to humanity, the reasons for our existence and our ability to respond to God. We will cover the Church, the Trinity, the first three Sacraments and the Liturgy. See the Catechism of the Catholic Church #1309 and 1310 for the Church's requirements for Confirmation preparation.

Confirmation year 2 begins with an another opportunity for the confirmandee to give their lives completely to God. It continues more deeply into who God is and begins teaching the moral life. It covers familirity with the Holy Spirit, the theological virtues, and the Sacrament of Confirmation itself. They will go on a Saturday retreat on May 4th to further prepare them for this important sacrament. The Confirmation Mass will be on Thursday, May 9th, 2013 at 7:00pm.

Ken's first 3 years as a catechist were as a student at U of M through St. Mary's student chapel, starting in 1970 under Sister Gail Lancaster. The next 8 years he spent in weekly youth ministry and summer camp at grade school level up to high school. As his family grew (Ken and his wife Patti have 11 children), he continued to work with the Pathfinders father/son group for the next 15 years, camping, building, hiking and other adventures until his youngest son was too old to be interested. He taught for a few years at the Explorer's high school program on engineering principles and world history. In 2007, Ken began to assist the CTK Confirmation program with a few talks and group discussions and finally in 2010 he began teaching the new, 2-year Confirmation program under Barbara Morgan's guidance.

Ken has this to say about his experience as a catechist: "God has been so good to me over the years; I have been so blessed. He has touched me with a desire to learn more about Him and the Catholic Church's teachings over the past several years, and I find that much of what I have been reading and learning gave me a greater desire to share God's life with others, especially young people. Confirmation students are at the PERFECT age to give their lives more fully to God and they are full of questions about their faith. It is an exciting and challenging program and I have grown to love these developing young people, as my brothers and sisters in Christ the King!"

Alan Hufnagel is the catechist for Year 2 Confirmation. He works as an engineer for the US Army. He is blessed to be married to Michele. They have 8 children; 7 boys and 1 girl; and three grandchildren. Alan and Michele have been members of CTK since 2002 . Alan feels really blessed to teach the Confirmation class, to have the opportunity to teach the Catholic faith to these boys and girls as they are marching forward into adulthood. In his spare time, Alan likes spending time with his family, reading, woodworking, gardening, and discussing theology.
