2010 Spring Retreat

March 19-21, 2010
Bethany House, Dewitt

Registration Deadline: March 7, 2010

"Be watchful, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong.  Let all that you do be done in love." – 1Cor 16: 13-14

This year's Spring Retreat will help us all do just that – stand firm in our faith in the midst of a culture that is very different than we'd like it to be. We'll learn how to take a stand by surrendering more and more to the Power of the Spirit.

Life Teen is an international Catholic ministry that serves the Church and leads all teens closer to Christ by providing resources and training that encourage vibrant Eucharistic celebrations and opportunities for teens to grow in their faith.

Be Involved!
The Catechism says that the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholics. As the Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives, the Mass is at the center – and is the most important element of Life Teen. The Life Teen Mass is specifically intended for teens. The music, homily and worship are all directed toward YOU. Teens do all of the various services involved with the Mass: Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, Sacristans, Adult Servers, Ushers, Greeters, Music Ministry, and participants. Training sessions will be available in the fall and winter, and we highly encourage all of the teens at Christ the King to be trained in one or more ministries. This is a prime way to be involved, deepen your faith, and serve your friends, peers…and most importantly, Jesus Christ. If you have questions about serving at Mass, email Brad Schmidt at bschmidt@ctkcc.net.

If you have questions, or for more information on Life Teen at Christ the King, send an email to Brad Schmidt at bschmidt@ctkcc.net.

Life Nights - Putting our Faith in Action

At Life Nights, we go deeper into our faith, and discuss how the teachings of Jesus apply to our life. Let’s face it. Many of us know Jesus, His life, His Church and His teachings. The focus of Life Nights is to integrate our faith with our experiences. For the most part, we know the basics of our faith. But when faced with the many new adult experiences in the life of a teen, we all need to re-examine these experiences in the light of faith.

Every Life Night is different. There is always food, laughter and great people! Typically, the night includes a skit or game, a talk, small group discussion, and prayer.

Occasionally, we have Empowerment Nights – centered around adoration, prayer ministry, and praise and worship.

We may know a lot about the faith (or maybe not so much), but no one of us knows everything. Plus, the goal isn’t just to know things, but it’s for us to develop a personal relationship with Jesus, live a life of holiness, and be with God in heaven forever. Knowledge is only part of what we need, our heart is what He asks for. How do we look to Jesus in all parts of our lives? This is a question we continue to ask each day, and together we turn to Christ to show us how to improve upon.

Resources related to Teen Dating

Several years ago, Fr. Ed, the Life Teen Core Team and several parents put together the following resources to help parents and teens discern how appropriate it would be for a teen to date. We are presenting here something of a ‘dating checklist,’ a practical guide to help teens and their parents reflect on how to respond to the basic pragmatic question: is it appropriate for their teens to date at this time, as well as other reflections on teen dating? The checklist embodies questions based on some of Fr. Ed's and the LIFE TEEN Core Team’s perspectives on what important issues should be considered in discerning this whole area.

As always, the decision to date or not, should be based on prayer and reflection with both the parents and teens.

Prayer Intercessors

Each week, during the school year, parents (or others) interceed for the teens at Life Teen during our Life Nights. Our goal is to have at least one person interceeding in front of the Blessed Sacrament from 8:00 - 9:00, and another from 9:00 - 10:00 each Sunday that has a Life Night scheduled. If you're available to help, send an email to Brad Schmidt.
