Welcome to Christ the King Catholic Church and our parish website! We are very happy you are visiting us here. Please allow us to introduce ourselves. We are a Catholic parish, part of the Diocese of Lansing under Bishop Carl Mengeling.

As a 'personal parish' of the Bishop, we do not have a territory that we are responsible for like most parishes but instead are officially called to minister to Catholics who are seeking a deeper presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Our liturgies and overall ministry are thusly oriented to encourage growth in the Holy Spirit and the charismatic gifts that He wishes to provide. Please feel free to explore our website or contact us to find out more about Christ the King.

Articles on our charismatic life by our pastor, Fr. Ed Fride.

#1 Introduction from Pope John Paul II, the co-essential nature: "As we begin to explore the charismatic life that is a constitutive element of our special call as a charismatic personal parish, let’s begin by examining some of what John Paul II has shared about charismatic life within the Church herself...." Here is some more information about the people, ministry, and spirituality of Christ the King Catholic Church.

A Brief History: In 1981, a group of Catholics in the "Charismatic Renewal" met weekly for Mass and reception of the sacraments with the blessing of the Bishop of Lansing. In 1991, we were given the name Christ the King and began the process of becoming a parish; we were a 'pilgrim people' functioning without a permanent building. By God's grace, we dedicated our current church in June 2001. Today, many people come to Christ the King Catholic Church with various spiritual experiences, and the main mission of the parish continues... to provide formation and pastoral care of all persons, leading them closer to God, especially God the Holy Spirit. (click here for a more detailed history)

Charismatic Prayer and the Mass: A charismatic style of prayer is common at Christ the King. People are free to raise their hands in prayer and during songs, many pray their own prayers audibly, some pray in tongues, etc.... We pray with expressive or charismatic prayer at monthly parish prayer meetings, at the beginning of parish meetings, and most especially during certain moments in the Holy Mass. These are some of the external markers of a charismatic parish. Internal markers include a radical surrender to the Lordship of Jesus Christ in all parts of life, a strong adherance to the Gospel and the teachings of the Catholic Church, and the pursuit of strong friendships centered on Christ. As Catholics, this obviously includes abiding in the heart of the Church in union with our beloved Bishop and Pope Benedict XVI.

We the people of Christ the King, called by God our Father to be surrendered to the Lord Jesus, in the power of His Holy Spirit, in the heart of His Church, dedicate ourselves to His mission for our charismatic Parish... - from Mission Statement for Christ the King
