Sacred Heart's mission parish is St. Mary of the Rosary Mission Church, located on the Navajo Indian Reservation in the far northeast corner of Arizona in Pinon (pronounced PIN'yawn). It has an elevation of at least 6,000 feet so it is very cold and windy there. It is a small mission church with an average of 10-30 people attending mass. They recently celebrated 100 years of missionary presence in Navajoland. However, this mission was not established until 1931 after submitting 123 signatures and some fingerprints from the people petitioning for a Catholic church in Pinon. It is a 45 mile drive, one way, from Chinle (where the Pastor resides) to Pinon. The nuns came in April of 1982. They live in a mobile home right next to St. Mary's Church.
