CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine) is the religious education program for our grade school and high school students who are not enrolled in our Catholic schools.
Through this program, children are prepared for receiving the sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation. They are also given instruction in the precepts of their Catholic faith.
Classes meet on Wednesday for 26 weeks. Textbooks based on the new catechism are used for instruction. Special books are used for classes that are preparing for the sacraments. Testing is done and special materials are used to enhance the textbooks. Religious education teachers meet three times a year for instruction and two meetings are held with parents who have children in the sacrament classes.
The sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist are received by children while they are in the second grade.
Confirmation is held during the junior year in high school. There will be no Confirmation for the parish in 2013. The registration period will be announced for the next Confirmation class.
The religious education program also prepares children in the third grade to become altar servers.
