A new church building for Kpg Kakai

SERIAN - The Catholic Community of Kpg Kakai, one of the pioneer Catholic communities in the district, is in dire need of a new church building. The new building is estimated to cost RM250,000 on a half acre site.

The existing 30-year-old Catholic hall-cum-chapel is now within the parameters of the area reserved for a government road, which will be taken in the near future. Also, it cannot accommodate the increased number in the area.

A committee headed by Cr Dominic Asui Dius, who is also the vice-chairman of St Theresa’s Parish Council (Serian) has taken on the task of raising fund for the project. Cr Dominic says, “We have an uphill task to raise funds, considering a “church building”, like this! I appeal wholeheartedly to our brothers and sisters to generously donate toward the fund”.

He can be contacted at 082-874617 or Rector of St Theresa’s Parish Serian via the Cr Dominic Asui.

God’s willing, construction will commence next year and hopefully, expected to complete in 2006.

Meanwhile, a joggerthon held recently is as a curtain raiser to the fund raising activities. It attracted some 200 participants from various areas in Serian and Kuching. Cr Dominic Asui, on behalf of Fr Jepy, the Rector of St Theresa’s Parish flag-off the event.
