PORT DICKSON - The 4th International Prison Conference 2003, organised by the Malaysia Care, was held from 20-23 June at Golden Sands Baptist Centre, Port Dickson. The theme of the Conference was “Repent - for the Kingdom of God is here”. The Conference was attended by representatives from all the states in Malaysia and Singapore.

The speaker was Pastor Wong Ching Meng who is currently a teacher at the Station of Life, a school for pastors and leaders in Lahad Datu. He gave a very good insight into what repentance really is and why a solid foundation for Christian faith is necessary.

Besides talks, there were four workshops on: Stress Management, AIDS, Aftercare of ex-prisoners and drug dependents and Self support groups. All these workshops helped those who are involved in Prison Ministry to understand how to work with prisoners during their terms and after their released.

A high-powered meeting was held in between the presentations to decide whether there is a necessity to start a International Prison Networking. It was unanimiously agreed that such a networking is important to encourage and to inform all those involved in this ministry. Thus a pro-tem committee was formed with Mark Matthew of Johore as the chairperson and each state in Malaysia is represented by their respective committees. Attended that meeting from Sarawak was Paul Voon from the Catholic Church, Peter Ahed from the SIB and Chin Fook Chiung from the Baptist Church.
