Fr. Joachim Pang celebrates

BAU
- Archbishop Peter Chung concelebrated the Golden Jubilee Mass of Fr Joachim Pang with Bishops Dominic Su (of Sibu) and John Ha, and 30 other priests in St Stephen’s Parish (Bau) on 3 June. About 800 people joined in the celebration.

In his homily, the Archbishop said, “We all know the gift of Fr Pang to the parish. He served 20 years and built more than 30 churches. But what is more important is God’s gift of Fr Pang himself to the Parish. In his priestly ministry, he has offered so many Masses, baptisms and by these, has brought tremendous blessings to the Parish. We must really thank God for such great blessings.” He asked all to continue to work together with Fr Pang to bring greater spiritual development to the parish. And he prayed that God will continue to bless Fr Pang with a “long long” life.

At the end of the Mass, on behalf of the Church the Archbishop presented two gifts to Fr Pang namely, a vestment and an apostolic blessing from the Pope.
After the Eucharistic celebration, there was light refreshment outside the Church. Then all proceeded to the Bau Community Hall where guests filled 125 tables.
During the dinner, a multimedia presentation was made. It presented the history of the St Stephen’s Parish since the arrival of the missionaries up to the present time. This included the building of the new St Stephen’s Church.

Towards the end of the dinner, the community requested the Archbishop to present to Fr Pang a mock Waja car key. The car was a gift from the parishioners for Fr Pang. Fr Jerome Juleng, Fr Joseph Chai and Deacon Paul Harry then went on stage to witness the blowing of the candles on the anniversary cake by Fr Pang. All were invited to stand and sing the jubilee song to the jubilarian.
