Warmest greetings in the Lord to all of you.

I announce a good news to you. The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, has accepted my application for retirement from the office of the Archbishop of Kuching in accordance with our Church law and appointed our Bishop John Ha as the new Archbishop of Kuching. The official publication of the appointment was made in Rome on 21 June; and the Apostolic Delegate in Bangkok communicated the information to me the same evening.

     Following the instruction of the Apostolic Delegate, I have handed over the charge of the Archdiocese of Kuching to the new Archbishop today, i.e., 23 June 2003 in the presence of all our priests. As from today, I cease to have any responsibility over the Archdiocese. 

     Let us thank God for the appointment of the Most Rev John Ha as our new
Archbishop, and pray for him that he will have all the blessings of God to lead, the Archdiocese towards ever greater progress and growth. 

     I take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to all of you for your support and cooperation. I have served you for 28 years as your Archbishop; God willing, I will continue to serve you in different ways. Please remember me in your prayers.

Selamat sejahtera dalam Tuhan kepada anda semua

Saya mengumumkan berita baik kepada anda semua. Bapa Kudus, Paus John Paul II telah menerima permohonan saya supaya bersara daripada pejabat Uskup Agung Kuching mengikut undang-undang Gereja dan elah melantik Uskup John Ha sebagai Uskup Agung Kuching yang baru. Penerbitan rasmi perlantikan tersebut dibuat di Rom pada Sabtu, 21 Jun 2003; dan Wakil Apostolik di Bangkok menyampaikan maklumat tersebut kepada saya pada petang yang sama.

     Berikutan arahan Wakil Apostolik, saya telah menyerahkan penguasaan terhadap Keuskupan Agung Kuching kepada Uskup Agung baru pada hari ini, iaitu 23 Jun 2003 di depan semua paderi kita. Mulai hari ini, sya tidak lagi mempunyai tanggungjawab ke atas Keuskupan Agung.

     Majlis perlantikan Uskup Agung batu akan diadakan di Katedral St Joseph pada Rabu 16 Julai, pada 7.30 malam.

     Biarlah kita mengucapkan terima kasih kepada Tuhan kerana perlantikan Most Rev John Ha sebagai Uskup Agung baru, dan berdoa bagi beliau agar beliau akan memperolehi berkat Tuhan untuk memimpin Keuskupan Agung ke arah kemajuan dan pertumbuhan yang lebih pesat lagi.

     Saya mengambil kesempatan ini untuk menyuarakan terima kasih kepada anda semua kerana sokongan dan kerjasama anda. Saya telah berkhidmat selama 28 yahun sebagai Uskup Agung kamu; insya kehendak Tuhan, saya akan terus berkhidmat bagi anda dengan cara-cara lain. Saya mohon agar anda akan mengingati saya dalam doa anda.
