Vocation Awareness Seminar for parent

SERIAN - A Vocation Awareness Seminar was organized for parents from 14-15 June at Kpg Paon Rimu by the Vocation Team of the Sisters of St Francis of Sarawak. The aim of the seminar was to promote vocation awareness among parents.

Deacon Paul Harry talked on the meaning of “Call to Holiness” - actually living the Christian vocation in ordinary life but with commitment based on the Gospel values.

Sr Susan Dulang further shared two aspects of calling, “spiritual and worldly” - worldy as understood in the various professions in life, and spiritual in the call to married, single and celibate life. She gave examples from the Bible how God called individuals - all these callings are a gift from God but ours to choose and to respond.

Sr Perpetua Nyarung shared deeper on the role and responsibilities of Christian parents to foster and nurture vocations especially to the celibate life. She stressed that just as one cares and nurtures the field, one should nurture family life. There must be a sense of commitment so that the seed planted will grow in due time. She emphasized that Christian values must be instilled in the family to provide the young with the base for any good vocation in life.

Fr Augustine Jepy, the Rector of St Theresa’s Parish, in his homily mentioned about collaboration by praying for Church leaders and ministers for without them the Church cannot receive sacraments.

On the last day, there was an open forum session with the parents and the response was encouraging. About 300 participants took part in this two-day seminar, the first of its kind in this zone.
