To know Christ is a privilege in our journeys in life. When we know Christ we experience such joy and peace in our souls. As Catholics we want to share this experience with everyone we know; to spread his words to share His love and to participate in the Eucharist. That's why
we welcome new people to the church so they too, can experience what we experience. New people bring new blood to the church so that the church will grow stronger. In Kudat, our target is the adults as they have reached a stage when they have the wisdom to choose and decide for themselves what their souls need and reach out for it and later bring their own families to embrace the faith too. The RCIA animators are there to guide them to learn more about the Catholic faith.
The initiation takes place in stages. The first is the rite of becoming a catechumen, the second is the selection or choice and the third is the celebration of the sacraments. It is a time of purification and enlightenment.
The RCIA usually begins after Pentecost. In St. Peter's Parish, the instructions are in two languages namely Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia. For the Bahasia Malaysia section, the catechumens meet every Saturday and Sunday where the animators will share with them their knowledge and experience. The program is to enable the inquirer to know and understand Jesus and the Catholic faith. Sessions for the Chinese are conducted on Sunday morning. The elects will be baptized at the Easter Vigil mass.
