The “Early Bird Derby” replaces the previous Tagged Salmon prize;
there is no tagged Salmon contest this year.
Official Derby Rules
• Entries ($25 each) are available until 6PM Thursday, September 30, 2004.
Late entries are allowed until 8AM Saturday, October 2, LIMITED TO
AVAILABLE TICKETS AND AT LIMITED LOCATIONS.
A maximum of 650 participants will be allowed.
• Children 12 and under pay only $10
to enter and are eligible for a special
prize pool.
• All
anglers in any participating boat must be derby entrants (on October 2 and 3).
Bank fishing is also allowed.
• Legal derby hours are 5AM Saturday until 3PM
Sunday. Awards will be announced at
6PM Sunday, October 3, at the Richland Knights of Columbus Hall, 2500 Chester
Road (Bypass Highway and Van Giesen Street).
• Checks
should be made payable to the Knights of Columbus or to Tri-Cities Prep.
• Derby fishing is open on the Columbia River
and Yakima River as allowed by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
regulations. All participants must
follow all applicable licensing, tackle, and fishing regulations.
Violations will result in disqualification.
Weigh-in station locations:
Vernita Bridge (1st launch above bridge); Ringold (below irrigation
outfall); Leslie Groves Park (Snyder Street boat launch in Richland)
• Weigh in
stations will be open, as a minimum, from 10AM to 5PM Saturday and 10AM to 3PM
Sunday. Weighing in during other
hours will be permitted subject to the availability of and at the discretion of
a weigh station attendant, but in no cases will a weigh-in be allowed for
anglers arriving at the weigh station after 3PM Sunday.
• Salmon
will be weighed whole, ungutted. All
Salmon will be subject to inspection or dissection by derby officials.
Foreign matter detected in any Salmon, or evidence of freezing, will be
grounds to disqualify the entrant.
• Derby
volunteers and organizers are allowed to participate in the derby with the
exception of the weighmaster. The
weighmaster will be the final authority on all questions regarding validity of
awards.
• Prizes
will be awarded for largest Salmon, highest total weight for the two-day derby,
a randomly selected "mystery Salmon", and 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th
largest Salmon. Additional prizes
may be awarded depending on the number of prize donations.
In the event of a tie, the winner will be determined by the flip of a
coin.
• Participants
agree that the decisions of the derby weighmaster are final.

EARLY BIRD CONTEST:
Starting Saturday, September 4, through Friday, October 1, weekly prizes
of $100 (adult) and $50
(age 12 and under) will be awarded for the biggest Salmon weighed in from
Saturday through Friday at the dealers listed at the top of the page.
You must purchase an entry (to the October 2-3 derby) to be eligible.
The rule requiring all anglers in the boat to be entered does not apply
to the EARLY BIRD CONTEST. One each
weekly adult and child prizes will be announced after each Friday among all
Salmon weighed during the previous week. Note
that some of the weighing location sponsor stores may award additional prizes
for Salmon weighed at their specific location, at their discretion and subject
to the sponsor’s rules.
