Holy Trinity History

Throughout its history the community of Edinburgh has been closely related to the Catholic Church in Columbus, Indiana. Father Vincent Bacquelin was the first priest to minister in the Edinburgh area. He was appointed Pastor of the scattered Catholics in Central Indiana in August 1837, by Bishop Simon Brute. He died September 2, 1846, as a result of injuries received in a fall from his horse.
After the death of Father Bacquelin, the southern part of his mission was given to Father Maloney who, residing in Scipio, Indiana, attended Columbus and Edinburgh. In Edinburgh he held services in the homes of Mrs. Pfabzgraff and Mrs. Ryan. In 1849, Bishop Maurice de Saint Palais visited Edinburgh. Evidently favorably impressed by the growing prosperity of the town, he agreed that the congregation should build a church. Details concerning the construction are lacking but according to the traditional account,Dr. Keely donated the lot in the west end of town, while John Walsh and ThomasFitzgibbons contracted for the building which was completed in 1851.

If you would like to help with any of these committees, please contact the chairperson of that committee.

Also we are still in need of more parish photographs (with your name so the photos can be returned, as well as names of people in the photo and an approximate date if known.) We are also still in need of more written memories as well.

There will be an organizational meeting on Sunday, February 18th after Mass for anyone who would like to help on one of the committees. Please plan to attend and lend your support.

There will be envelopes available after Easter for donations to defray the cost of the celebration.
