Great Summer Bible Adventure
1999
This year's theme was Great Stories from the Old
Testament. The children heard ancient stories told again: the tales of the Tower of
Babel; Abraham, Sarah and their laughing baby, Isaac; the brothers, Jacob and Esau; mighty
Samson; and Jonah and the whale. They also learned the important lessons that
underlie these stories--that God will always care for us, and that we need, in return to
trust and obey God.

Fun activities are used to help children remember and understand the Bible stories they
hear. Jacob used a disguise to gain Esau's blessing, so the children made and
decorated masks.

DRE LouAnn Warren and Summer Adventure co-coordinator Terry "Recycling" Noyes
came up with oodles of arts and projects, many using recycled materials from Scraptivity.
Christians share their gifts with others. These children are making wreaths which
Barbara Schweitzer, Lay Minister, will help distribute to parish shut-ins.
Kathy Riley wrote a play about the Tower of Terror for the kids,
and also helped the fourth graders write and publish a newspaper about their Summer
Adventure experiences and the stories they learned.

What fun is a craft if it isn't messy? These two youngsters are tie-dying T-shirts,
which will later be stenciled with WWF GOD--for World Wide Federation of God.

Little Adventurers are paired up with older Adventure Guides. Guides can begin when
they're entering fifth grade, and many come back year after year.

Diane Roncaioli led the children in song every day--old favourites and new tunes as well.

Mighty Samson appeared in person to tell how he saved his people at the expense of his own
life. Funny--he bears more than a passing resemblance to Bob Sanzo!
Intrepid Games Master Nick Ciarcia had new games for the kids to play each day of Summer
Adventure.

These children are involved in a rousing game of Cat and Mouse..
What's an adventure without food? Carol Courtney and Pampered Chef provided dessert
pizzas on Wednesday.

"Kitchen Ladies" Jeanette Cyr, Rosemary Garlick and Rose Magnano sated healthy
appetites with luscious snacks.
