Summer Adventure

The Religious Education Program at St. Paul Church is a sequential program, beginning with Baptismal Instruction for new parents and godparents. Children can be enrolled in a kindergarten program, "Little Children in God's World" which offers Bible stories, songs, and crafts during the nine o'clock Mass. The formal program begins in first grade. Each year a volunteer staff of catechists tellreclass.jpg (17928 bytes) our faith story, using Church teaching, tradition, and Bible references to bring children into a closer relationship with God. Instructional masses are scheduled for grades three, five, seven, and nine. Children in grades four through eight celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation during the Advent and Lenten seasons. Young people are prepared for the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation, and their parents are invited to attend workshops about sacrament preparation and church teachings during these "teachable moments". In addition to the classroom experience children often are involved with outreach activities to help others in the community, such as bottle drives and book collections.

To allow all families choices which work for them, some parents have chosen to teach their children at home. These participants in the program attend two intergenerational classes and complete a written assignment before progressing to the next level of the program. The flexibility of the program allows everyone who wants to participate in Religious Education a chance to be a part of this active community.

The phone number for the Religious Education office is 828-1934.  Classes for grades one through three are held on Saturday morning; for grade eight on Monday evening; for grades four and five on Tuesday evening; and for grades six and seven on Wednesday evening.  The program director is LouAnn Warren.

There is always a need for teachers and substitutes. Training workshops and supplementary materials are provided and a supportive staff works together to make the experience a positive adventure.

One week each summer children of all ages come together to learn, play, sing, and create duringsatshirt.jpg (29386 bytes) the annual Great Summer Bible Adventure. Older children and adults serve as adventure guides to the younger participants. Many children return each year to help with the fun events.
